It is 2 layers of heavy duty mesh, this ensures there are no rub or wear spots against your dogs coat or skin. We take the extra time to match up both layers of mesh the mesh holes to get maximum air flow. That also minimizes the chances of hair getting trapped between the layers. If you do get some hair build up between the layers, I recommend a shop vac.
