Two isoenzymes have been isolated, called muscle acylphosphatase and erythrocyte acylphosphatase on the basis of their tissue localization. ACYP2 (acylphosphatase 2) encodes the muscle type isoform (MT). An increase of the MT isoform is associated with muscle differentiation.
